Feb. 13 news and notes; Jets, Preds, Leafs, Sabres & Coyotes

Look for the Predators to make a move sooner rather than later for a defenseman. The 3rd pairing of Anthony Bitetto & Viktor Bartley played just over 13 minutes, mainly against  the Jets 4th line. Bartley didn't look great as had 2 minor penalties in the game vs Winnipeg.  Often during that contest that pairing got caught in there own end for long periods of time.  Nashville is will eventually obtain a rental defenseman; it’s whether to do it now or near the deadline.
It’s a distinct possibility that newly acquired Joel Armia gets recalled before the Jets play Detroit on Saturday night. Anthony Peluso could sit;  Peluso twice in the last 5 games has taken (2) minor penalties in a game and not of the good variety. TJ Galiaradi might be sent down to make room for Armia.
When the fire sale begins in Toronto; the Leafs might have to eat some of Phil Kessel, Dion Phaneuf, David Clarkson or Joffrey Lupul’s contract to make them more desirable. From now until July 1; they can only only do that for twice. CBA rules say you can max out of 3 contracts being made by previous team; the Leafs are currently paying 200k of Carl Gunnarson’s contract.

Both Evander Kane and Martin Hanzal are out for the year with season ending surgery. It is no secret that both Buffalo and Arizona are going to be both sellers at the deadline. Both teams have placed both players on IR; but will not then on LTIR because they want both contracts counting against there cap.
